I did not know Robert other than to say hello to him at some Southern races. Robert was friendly and a gentleman but he was very strong on the bike. For some reason one day the handicapper put me in a race with him on one of the hilly circuits. He was off the front on the second hill and I was out the back. He won this race by a country mile or two and I think he unloaded everyone. For Robert to donate his organs whilst alive tells you the great person he was. Whether you believe in an after life or not I am sure he is at great peace with his maker.

Yours Sincerely

It's been a while now. I was just talking about Eltham and some of the people who lived there. As usual cycling came up and I mentioned Rob's name (he was my next door neighbour in Valonia Drive Eltham). Always fond memories of Rob taking me to a fun run of some description with no limit in destination to where that might be.

Lots of training runs down to the Eltham Leisure Centre for a some laps and the run back home - he was relentless, but an amazing man and I am proud to have known him and trained with him.

Thank you for your kind words Roger. This year (2018) is the first year that have the same days and dates of the horrible week before he died. It's the night before I held his hand as his life support was withdrawn now 11 years ago. Still very fresh in my mind that night, morning and four days before yet the feeling is more of love towards his memory rather than the painful and sad feeling as it once was. Peace be with you dad.
